Week 1 of Durango’s Youth American Football League is in the books.
Four of the five local youth football teams competed Saturday, with only the second-grade Demons idle.
This week’s results:
Durango Dolphins (third grade) defeated Shiprock 35-0.
Durango Colts (fourth grade) defeated the Bloomfield Bobcats 44-0.
Durango Patriots (fifth grade) defeated Cortez.
Durango 49ers (sixth grade) lost 19-0 to the Farmington Panthers.
Gage Mestas ran for three touchdowns in the Colts’ shutout, and Jordan Woolverton had two touchdowns.
Cal Walsh and Westin Baken had one touchdown each.
Mestas and Ty Martinez each rushed for extra points.
Brayton Jackson had two touchdowns in the Patriots’ victory, while Joe Arnwine and Everett Howland had one each.
Carver Willis returned an interception for a touchdown.
No statistics were given for the Dolphins and the 49ers’ games, and no score was provided for the Patriots’ victory. (All information was provided by Ryan Woolverton.)
Durango will host Youth American Football League games at 11 a.m., 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday at Miller Middle School.
