Lightning rains on Pagosa parade

The Durango High School boys golf team was set for a full 18 holes Thursday.

The weather, however, had other ideas.

Lightning caused the cancellation of Thursday’s event at Pagosa Springs Golf Course with most of the competitors still on the course.

Only junior Bo Ward completed a round among the DHS golfers.

“There just wasn’t much we could do,” DHS head coach Kirk Rawles said. “We didn’t want to put the kids out there. It got pretty nasty.”

Rawles did cite the play of varsity players Eric Walker and Trevor Bogus as the day’s big positives, adding that the play of junior varsity golfer Garrett Mulkey likely will earn him a promotion to varsity next week.
