An outage involving the La Plata Electric Association’s westside substation left 1,300 customers without power for six minutes Tuesday morning.
The customers affected were in the west side of downtown Durango and the Crestview and Lightner Creek neighborhoods, spokeswoman Indiana Reed said.
Power was lost at 10:29 a.m. and was restored at 10:35, Reed said.
The westside substation is near Greenmount Cemetery.
“We’re upgrading equipment across our territory, which is what was occurring today,” Reed said. “When they work on a substation, they route power through a mobile substation to keep power flowing.
“A piece of protective gear at the mobile substation serving the westside failed,” Reed said. “When that occurred, circuits were locked open so there was no power.”
Since crew members were on the site, they were able to bring back power quickly, Reed said.
