Crack down on littering, not plastic bags

It is time to hit the mute button on a few shallow-minded people who want to outlaw the use of plastic shopping bags in Durango. They call them single-use bags because their view is we are a throw-away society that is not resourceful enough to reuse or environmentally correct to recycle.

Somehow these bags are deemed worse than the excessive plastic packaging used to coat most everything we buy. Target the corporations that produce consumer products. Empty plastic drink bottles, not bags, are what I find scattered along my U.S. Highway 550 frontage. Target litter louts.

I want to believe there is a silent majority in our community that outnumber these folks who use government to impose yet another policy that inflicts yet another fee to fund more programs we donít need. A 10-cent fee on each shopping bag is outrageous.
