Former Ignacio resident David G. Pope died Aug. 28, 2012, in Provo, Utah. He was 88.
Mr. Pope was born to William Alfred and Essie Shupe Pope on July 28, 1924, in Taos, N.M. He was one of seven children.
On Jan. 9, 1953, he married Georgia Anne Thomas, and their marriage was sealed at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple in Mesa, Ariz.
The Popes lived in Ignacio for more than 55 years, where Mr. Pope owned Pope’s Auto Parts Store. His parents also owned a farm in the area. The couple moved to Price five years ago.
Mr. Pope was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in various callings, including two full time missions in Tahiti.
“David was a jack of all trades,” his family said, “nothing he couldn’t fix or do. He enjoyed helping others, loved being with people, telling stories and especially enjoyed spending time with family.”
Mr. Pope was preceded in death by his son Michael Shaun Pope.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Georgia Pope, of Price; children Holly Hall, Tammy Rigert and Todd F. Pope, all of Price, and David Pope Jr. of Porterville, Calif.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers; and two sisters.
Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Fausett Mortuary, 680 East 100 South in Price, and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, before the service at the Price LDS 7th and 8th Ward Building, 995 East 700 North in Price. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m., also at the Ward Building. Burial will occur at the Cliffview Cemetery.
