A Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad train collided with a silver Toyota Tacoma on Saturday morning soon after the train had left the depot in downtown Durango.
No one involved appeared to have suffered injuries in the collision at Eighth Street and the tracks along Narrow Gauge Avenue.
A police spokesman said the truck’s driver was cited for careless driving but was unable to provide the driver’s name at that time. There was no apparent damage to the train, and an estimate of damage to the truck was not available.
Bystanders quickly gathered after the accident, which occurred about 9:30 a.m., during the weekly Farmers Market in the bank parking lot adjacent to the railroad tracks.
Witnesses reported the driver of the Tacoma, a man who appeared to be in his 60s, turned in front of the train, which came to a stop at the intersection after striking the vehicle.
The train was delayed for about 15 minutes while information about the accident was gathered. Afterward, the driver was able to reverse his vehicle off the tracks and allow the train to proceed.
