Former La Plata County resident Mildred Townsend Knight Dewey, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at her home in Farmington. She was 81.
Mrs. Dewey was born to Port Preston Peterson Townsend and Madge Dustin Townsend on Feb. 5, 1931, in Farmington. She grew up in Breen, Redmesa and La Plata, N.M.
“Mildred liked to shop. She was always looking for that great bargain, and she enjoyed listening to music,” her family said. “She dearly loved and enjoyed being with her family and her friends. Mildred played cards every week with her card buddies, and her kids and grandchildren will always remember the lengthy movie marathons.”
Mrs. Dewey was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Jack Dewey; and former husband, Alan Knight.
She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Fuller, Elinor Brown and Amanda Tafoya; sister, Wilda Smith; brother, Dewey Smouse; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, in the Relief Society Room at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1310 E. 25th St., Farmington. A funeral will take place afterward at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the church. Bishop Steve Nygren will officiate.
Burial will occur at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2015, in the plot next to her husband, Jack, in the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 North Guadalupe St., Santa Fe.
