William Leroy Grey, the father of La Plata County resident Gary Grey, died Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, in Espaņola, N.M. He was 77.
Known as “Bill,” he was born to Jack and La Virgin Grey on April, 20, 1935, in El Paso, Texas.
Mr. Grey served in the Navy aboard the USS Misspillion from about 1954 to 1959.
He lived most of his adult life in California, where he worked from 1966 to 1995 in the sanitation department for the city of Inglewood. He retired to his childhood home of Espaņola, where he was a member of the Santa Clara Pueblo.
Mr. Grey enjoyed fishing with family and friends and going to the casino. He was a Catholic by faith.
Mr. Grey was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Grey.
He is survived by his sons Gary Grey of La Plata County, Robert Grey of Espaņola, Jim Grey of Santa Clara, N.M., and Jamie Grey of Littlefield, Texas; brother Clyde Grey of Espaņola; sisters Louise Kiger of Santa Fe, Donna Abeyta of Santa Clara, Mary Grey Howell of Espaņola and Jeannie Romero of Guam; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
