Sodexo Campus Dining provided the food during Fiesta on the Mesa at Fort Lewis College on Monday evening using family recipes provided by students from El Centro de Muchos Colores.

Mexican norteño band Grupo Control, which bills itself as Los Reyes de La Cumbia, or kings of the cumbia form of music, performs during Fiesta on the Mesa at Fort Lewis College on Monday evening. The band is originally from the small town of Control in the state of Tamaulipas, Mexico, but is now based in Houston.

Ballet Folklorico de Durango performs during Fiesta on the Mesa at Fort Lewis College on Monday evening. Fiesta on the Mesa is sponsored by El Centro de Muchos Colores, Club del Centro. The event kicks off FLC´s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which is celebrated nationally from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Sept. 15 also commemorates the beginning of Mexico´s Independence Day celebration.

The date also commemorates one of Mexico’s most important national holidays known as El Día del Grito, or the call to revolution from Spain.
