There are so many good people in this community. I feel lucky to be here. But when the actions of another inspire you to be better person, that speaks volumes to the person and his or her character.

Gwen Lachelt is running for county commissioner.

I can’t think of a better person. I worked intensely with Gwen years ago, and know the caliber of her character. She has ethics beyond reproach.

Gwen works with people better than any adviser, community leader or employer I can name. She is devoted to this community and would represent us all well and correctly. Gwen will make an excellent commissioner and would help make this county an even better place to live and raise our children.

Another person who has my vote but isn’t running for any office is Randy Burton. Though he’s a business owner, he selflessly sweeps the sidewalks of many a business that has trash that has been carelessly discarded. I have seen Randy many, many times on county roads picking up trash. He’s an amazing person, and I think he deserves accolades for his community services.

And lastly, another person who makes me want to be a better person is La Vern Nelson.

If he’s not volunteering his time to the train, he’s working at the soup kitchen serving up food and a large measure of goodness. He’s a transplant like me but loves this community like Gwen and Randy and I.

These people serve us by example, dedicating time and effort to La Plata County. They inspire me to be a better person. Thank you Gwen, Randy and La Vern.
