The Durango High School softball team managed a split on the road Saturday, beating Rifle 7-0 in the opener before falling 11-8 in the nightcap.
The Demons (3-9) rolled to victory in the opener thanks to a big third inning. Leading 2-0 at the time, DHS put four runs on the board to push the lead to 6-0, then added an insurance run in the fourth.
Cindy Kobrin popped a home run and a double as part of her 2-for-3, three-RBI showing, while Mercy Lashway, Sidney Corbin and Augusta Brockus all had two hits apiece.
Lexy Vidunas was masterful in the circle, throwing all seven innings and allowing just four hits and four walks to go with 12 strikeouts.
Rifle hopped out early in the second game to erase Durango’s 3-0 first-inning lead. The Bears scored 11 unanswered runs.
DHS rallied with runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, but the comeback attempt fell short with the tying run at the plate.
Kobrin stayed hot with the bat with two doubles and three RBIs, while Corbin went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Mackenzie Sill had a pair of hits, an RBI and two runs scored, and Mikayla Jeffryes added a pair of hits.
Brockus threw two innings in the loss, while Vidunas followed her into the circle.
