BHS volleyball back in action at home

Ignacio will host Mancos in San Juan Basin League

The Bayfield High School volleyball team will put its No. 3 state ranking on the line today when the Wolverines host Farmington in an interstate matchup.

The Wolverines (7-1), No. 3 in, also are ranked No. 5 by The Denver Post in Class 3A volleyball.

Bayfield rebounded from its only loss of the season (to Piedra Vista) with a 3-0 victory over Mancos last week.

The Wolverines will host the Scorpions (4-4) at 6:30 p.m. today at the BHS gym. The varsity match will follow freshmen and junior varsity matches.

Valley (11-0) is ranked No. 1 in Class 3A in both statewide polls. Valley and Bayfield tied for third place at the 2011 CHSAA State Volleyball Championships.

St. Mary’s of Colorado Springs (9-1) is No. 2 in the poll, just above Bayfield.

Colorado Springs Christian School (6-3) is ranked No. 4. CSCS won six consecutive state championships before Eaton won the 3A state title last year.

Eaton (9-3) is ranked No. 5 this week.

In Class 2A, Ignacio will return to the court today when the Bobcats host Mancos in a San Juan Basin League match.

Ignacio (4-2 overall, 2-2 in league) won two out of three conference matches – all on the road – last week.

The Bobcats lost 3-1 at Telluride (17-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-11) to start the long road trip.
