DHS boys tennis gets a mixed bag of results at Pueblo

The Durango High School boys tennis team ended Friday’s play with a mixed bag of results at the Pueblo South Invitational.

No. 1 singles player Ryder Searle beat Pueblo Centennial 6-3, 6-0; he lost to Cheyenne Mountain 6-1, 6-0.

The Demons’ No. 2, Aaron Cash, took the opposite route: He lost to Cherry Creek 6-0, 6-0, then beat Widefield 6-0, 6-0.

At the No. 3 slot, Wesley Komick fared better against one part of Pueblo than the other: He beat Pueblo East 6-3, 6-2 before losing to Pueblo Central 6-0, 6-1.

Durango’s doubles teams fared similarly.

The No. 1 team of Dylan Blair and Patrick Neal lost 6-0 before rallying to win 6-3, 6-4 against Pueblo Central; then they lost 6-1, 6-3 to Cheyenne Mountain’s No. 2 team.

At No. 2s, Alec Ensign and Chris Walton lost to Air Academy 6-1, 6-1 before battling through a match chock full of tiebreakers: They lost their first set to Pueblo South 7-6 (7-3), rallied to win 7-6 (7-5) and won the final set 6-2.

Durango’s No. 3 doubles, Garrett Crowell and Drew Downs, lost 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 to Greeley Central, then beat Cheyenne Mountain 6-1, 1-6, 6-2.

The No. 4 pairing of Harrison Quick and Amon Ledger wrapped up the day with two losses, first to Air Academy (6-0, 6-0) then to Widefield (6-4, 6-4).

The tournament will continue Saturday with its second and final day of competition.
