Durango resident Mary Beth Edwards died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at her home. She was 70.
Mrs. Edwards was born to Louis Edwards and Bertha Laverne Bates on April 9, 1942, in Morgan, Utah.
In 1970, she married Harvey Edwards in Ogden, Utah.
Mrs. Edwards attended Heneger Business College, graduating in 1962. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service, Hill Air Force Base and for Navy Supply in San Diego.
After her husband’s death in 1998, she lived in Bayfield for a year with her daughter, Carolyn Murga.
She lived in Durango for 14 years, where she had been a member of Mountain View Community Church. Her family said that’s where, “she worshipped her Savior, Jesus Christ.”
After arriving in Durango, she worked briefly with people with disabilities through Community Connections.
Mrs. Edwards participated in activities at the Durango-La Plata Senior Center and had a lot of friends at Tamarin Square.
Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, Harvey Edwards, in 1998.
She is survived by children Carolyn Murga of Bayfield, Joann Anderson of Springfield, Ill., and Harvey Edwards and Randy Edwards, both of Pahrump, Nev.; sisters Laverne Weger and Joann Bates, both of Ogden, Utah; and nine grandchildren.
Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012, at Pine River Cemetery in Bayfield. Memorial services will take place afterward at the First Baptist Church of Bayfield. The Rev. Barry Mooney of Mountain View Community Church will officiate.
