Michael Lee Ross

Former Durango resident Michael Lee Ross died of scleroderma Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, in Denver. He was one week shy of his 52nd birthday.

Mr. Ross was born to Norman and JoAnn Ross on Sept. 24, 1960, in Denver. The Ross family moved to Durango in 1972.

Mr. Ross graduated from Durango High School in 1979. During his senior year, he pitched a no-hitter for the DHS baseball team, which made both him and his father late for his sister Leah’s wedding.

While in Durango he worked at Sweeney’s Grubsteak and the Holiday Inn Restaurant.

Mr. Ross traveled extensively with his career as a restaurant manager to Florida, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and St. Louis before settling in Denver to be close to his family.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Denver Broncos fan, and he also enjoyed playing golf.

“He had a great sense of humor,” his family said.

Mr. Ross is survived by his mother, JoAnn Ross, of Denver; sisters Joni Ross Paul of Durango and Chris Ross and Leah Ross Conrad, both of Denver; and numerous other relatives.

A family service will be held.
