Turnabout was fair play for the Demons this weekend.
The Durango High School boys tennis team notched a dominating rebound win over Montrose a day after being dominated by Fruita Monument.
The Demons won 7-0 over the Indians Saturday after losing to the Wildcats 6-1 on Friday.
Against Montrose, the Demons’ No. 1 and No. 2 singles took little time to savor their matches – Ryder Searle won 6-1, 6-0 over Phurba Sherpa at the top spot, then Aaron Cash beat Chancey Dunn 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2.
No. 3 Wesley Komick instead chewed on every set: He beat Josh Robertson 6-4, 7-6, 11-9.
No. 1 doubles team Dylan Blair and Patrick Neal fell somewhere in between, and they beat Christian Gray and Nick Sherwood 6-3, 6-4.
The No. 2 team, Jalen Muller and Blake McDaniel, beat David Thorpe and Jared Warren 6-1, 6-4, then No. 3s Alec Ensign and Chris Walton beat Clayton Buetller and Hayden Tipping 6-1, 6-1.
Garrett Crowell and Drew Downs wrapped up the perfect win by beating Chase Buchallew and Andrew Johnson 6-4, 6-2.
The match against Fruita Monument nearly was a mirror opposite the day before.
Searle scored the only win, 6-3, 6-2 over Nick Rutan.
Cash lost 6-2, 6-4 to Matt Harris, and Komick lost 6-1, 6-1 to Gabe Treider to close out the singles.
The doubles didn’t fare any better.
Blair and Neal lost to Kelson Reimer and Taylor Scofield 6-1, 6-1.
Muller and McDaniel lost 6-1, 6-0 to Randy Hurshman and Scott Nolan.
Ensign and Walton lost 6-1, 6-2 to Matt Bishop and Colton Reimer.
Crowell and Downs lost 6-4, 6-2 to Sam Graf and James Stagg.
The regional tournament is up next for the Demons next Friday and Saturday.
