Animas Valley Institute announces hire

Animas Valley Institute, a local nonprofit organization that offers wilderness rites of passage and vision quests, announces the hiring of Sara Papathakis as the new program manager.

Papathakis received a degree in psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She did wilderness therapy work for Second Nature Entrada and also did a vision quest of her own before joining Animas Valley Institute.

The institute offers programs year-round throughout the U.S. and internationally.

Pine River Valley announces new hire

Pine River Valley Bank announces the hiring of Candy Heide as a commercial loan officer.

Heide has 20 years of banking experience in Steamboat Springs and Frisco, as well as eight years in Minnesota. She has extensive experience as an analyst and officer in commercial lending with a specialty in real estate, construction and development.

Heide has a degree in mathematics education from Bemidji State University in Minnesota and an associate’s degree from Itasca Community College in Grand Rapids, Minn. She also has continuing education in the industry, including accounting and finance from Bremer University and consumer lending and collection from the American Institute of Banking.

Quickbooks class to be held Oct. 10

Bethany McManus will teach an “Introduction to Quickbooks” class from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.

There will be a one-hour break for brown-bag lunch.

The class is sponsored by the Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center and the Durango Chamber of Commerce.

The cost is $70, or $65 for Durango Chamber of Commerce members. Call 247-7009 to register.

Parade of Homes to be held Oct. 5-7

The Durango Area Parade of Homes will take place Friday, Saturday and Oct. 7. Participants can tour the homes and meet the builders.
