Miller set for playoffs

Middle school squad to host Pagosa Springs

The Miller Middle School A team will begin its postseason push when it hosts Pagosa Springs at 3:30 p.m. today at the school.

The Angels finished the regular season 3-1 to earn the No. 2 seed in the San Juan Basin League playoffs, while Pagosa Springs enters as the No. 3 seed.

Statistically, Miller Middle School has hung its hat on defense, outscoring opponents 114-14 with the defense only allowing eight of those 14 total points. Linebacker Richard Hall leads the team in tackles, while Rowdy Wickman and Jake Bourdon pace the Angels with three sacks apiece.

Nate Angulo is the pace-setter for the Miller Middle School offensive attack, tallying seven touchdowns on the ground in four games. Kobe Szura also has a pair of rushing touchdowns.

Quarterback Peyton Woolverton is no slouch through the air, either, throwing for six touchdowns, while Gavin Mestas has a team-leading 10 receptions and a rushing touchdown. Trevor Candelaria has five touchdown receptions for the Angels.
