Bayfield resident Donald Ray Swart died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at his home. He was 79.
Mr. Swart was born to William and Gracie Swart on Aug. 12, 1933, in Sayre, Okla. When he was 10, his family moved to Richmond, Calif.
On June 16, 1953, he married Marion Fowble in California. She preceded him in death in 1972 after 19 years of marriage.
Mr. Swart enlisted in the Army in 1954.
He worked as a master carpenter in California as well as building boats, fishing commercially, breeding horses and restoring classic autos.
On June 30, 1973, he married Judith A. Watson in Bonita, Calif.
The Swarts moved to Bayfield about 20 years ago.
While in Bayfield, Mr. Swart built his home and worked on the family’s ranch.
Mr. Swart also was preceded in death by his second wife of 22 years, Judy Swart, in 1995; and son, Dwight Swart, in 1994.
He is survived by his daughters Dani Marsh of El Cajon, Calif., and Denice Hansen of Indianapolis; brother, Dale Swart, of Lakeside, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
