Michelle Obama to visit Durango

First lady will speak Wednesday at Fort Lewis

Colorado is playing an important role in this year's presidential election, which is drawing the key players to campaign across the state. And for the second election in a row, a key player in a campaign is visiting Durango.

First lady Michelle Obama will be in Durango on Wednesday to speak with grass-roots supporters at Whalen Gymnasium at Fort Lewis College. The gymnasium will open its doors at 2:15 p.m., with Obama scheduled to speak about 5 p.m.

“The first lady will speak about what's at stake in this election for Coloradans and encourage them to help organize their communities between now and Election Day,” the campaign said in a news release. “Mrs. Obama will also promote voting – including early voting, which starts Oct. 22 in Colorado – through GottaVote.com.”

The event is free, but tickets are required. With seating and some standing room, the gym can hold about 3,500 people.

Obama will visit Colorado Springs earlier on Wednesday and will speak at the Douglas County Fairgrounds on Thursday morning.
