Skyhawks’ XC runs through the Denver drizzle

The Fort Lewis College cross country team battled chilly weather and drizzle at the annual Metro State Invite at Washington Park on Saturday in Denver.

The FLC womenís team finished fifth in the meet won by the University of Northern Colorado. Metro State finished second in composite time scoring. Colorado Mesa University was third, with Colorado Christian fourth and FLC fifth.

The Skyhawks were led by Tara Dillonís 18th-place finish, racing the 6 kilometers in 25 minutes, 58 seconds. Dillon is from CaŮon City.

Garilena Cly of FLC finished 24th. Teammate Rhea Gillespie was 30th (28:02). Courtney Ragle was 31st (28:27). Valarie Bound was 35th.

Rikki Gonzales of Northern Colorado won the womenís race in 22:38.

Regan Mullen of Colorado Christian, who won the womenís race at the Tom Strandt Memorial Run at FLC earlier this season, finished second (22:42).

Jess Montour led the FLC men with his 11th-place finish in the menís 8K (27:18). Malcolm Skeet of FLC was 25th (28:38). Zachary Brinkmann finished 35th (29:27). Tate Lagasca was 37th for FLC (29:42). Kenny Whitehair was 39th (30:20). Ben Bautista (40th) and Zach Chenoweth (42) also competed for the Skyhawks.

Kirk Harvey of Metro State won in 26:20. Gavin Owens of the Air Force Academy was second.

Air Force won the menís team scoring, with Adams State second. Metro State was third.
