Mirror images to collide on the Ignacio gridiron

Bobcats (1-5, 0-2) will host Center (1-5, 0-2) tonight

Mirror football images will collide at Ignacio High School tonight.

The homestanding Bobcats will welcome Center for a key San Juan Basin League game. Each team is 0-2 in conference, looking for its first SJBL victory. Each team is 1-5 overall.

The similarities extend from there for the Class 1A football foes.

Ignacio’s lone victory of the 2012 season came two weeks ago in a win over the Montezuma-Cortez junior varsity team.

Center’s lone victory of the 2012 season came two weeks ago in a 27-14 win over Leadville’s Lake County. Center’s other losses this season came to Salida (28-13), John Mall of Walsenburg (21-7), Crowley County (41-0), Centauri (42-30) and Dolores (24-7).

Ignacio lost at home to Centauri 48-8 last weekend in a game that was close into the third quarter. The Bobcats’ earlier losses came to big schools Shiprock and Aspen as well as Monte Vista, ranked No. 9 this week in the 1A poll by coloradopreps.com.

The Ignacio offense will be looking for the form that produced 49 points in its victory over the Montezuma-Cortez junior varsity football team.

Likewise, the Center offense will try to replicate its performance from the Lake County game.

Monte Vista, tied for the SJBL lead with Centauri and Dolores (all with 2-0 marks), will play at Dolores tonight in another key conference game.

Ignacio, Center and Del Norte all are tied at 0-2.

Monte Vista is the only SJBL team ranked among the state’s top 10.

The rankings:

Buena Vista is ranked No. 1, with Limon No. 2. Platte Canyon (Bailey) is No. 3, with Wray at 4 and Cedaredge at 5. Hotchkiss sits at No. 6, with Wiggins at 7, Crowley County at 8, Monte Vista at 9, and Colorado Springs Christian rounds out the top 10.
