Movie about Criseros War to be screened in Pagosa

“For Greater Glory” will be shown at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Liberty Theater, 418 Pagosa St., in Pagosa Springs.

This is a retelling of the Cristeros War from 1926 to 1929 against the Mexican government for its having outlawed the Catholic Church and its persecution of people who dared to live out their religious freedom. There is no admission. The screening is sponsored by Pope John Paul II Catholic Church of Pagosa Springs.

First Native American saint to be celebrated on Sunday

St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 15449 Colorado Highway 172 in Ignacio, will celebrate the First Native American Saint, KateriTekakwitha, on Sunday.

There will be a procession in honor of the blessed Saint Tekakwitha beginning at 9 a.m. at St. Ignatius Church through the town of Ignacio and back to St. Ignatius. Mass will begin at 10:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon at Andary Hall.

This celebration will take place in conjunction with the Holy Catholic Church canonization Sunday. Interested parishioners are encouraged to wear their Native regalia. Participants may bring any article of Tekakwitha to be blessed.

Lutheran church in Durango to hold Halloween festival

Christ the King Lutheran Church will host a Halloween Festival from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 27 at 495 Florida Road, across from Chapman Hill.

The festival will feature live music, decorated car trunks, games, candy, crafts and stories from the Bible. Admission is one item for the food bank. Costumes are encouraged.
