In a doggedly tight race for Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament positioning, every point counts.

The No. 22 Fort Lewis College women’s soccer team picked up three key points Sunday with a 3-0 victory over CSU-Pueblo.

The Skyhawks (11-3-2, 7-3-2 RMAC) sit five points behing both UC-Colorado Springs and Regis with just six more up for grabs next weekend, so the regular season title might be a longshot. Still, holding off Metro State – who’s tied with FLC in fourth with 23 points – and Colorado Mesa is key for the six-team RMAC Tournament format, where the top two seeds get byes while No. 3 and No. 4 get to play first-round games at home.

“We end up, I think, having a good chance maybe at holding ourselves at third or fourth position and forcing a playoff game to come to us,” FLC head coach Damian Clarke said.

The Skyhawks were clinical offensively against the ThunderWolves (1-12-2, 1-10-1 RMAC), pouring in goals against a team they had trouble finishing against just a week earlier.

Molly Celler got FLC on the board off a Kate Sowell corner kick. Then, early in the first half with both Sam Weiss and Emma Cannis getting a break, Laura Tita moved into a forward role from her usual defensive spot and got her first collegiate goal to push the lead to 2-0.

“It was kind of a welcome break for the other two up top, and to get a couple of points out of it took the pressure off them,” Clarke said.

Not to be outdone, Weiss returned to the game and scored her team-leading 11th goal to wrap the scoring. She entered the contest second in the league in goals and second in total points.

FLC will wrap the regular season with a home weekend. The Skyhawks host Colorado Christian on Friday and will face Regis in a rematch of last Friday’s loss on Sunday. Both games kick off at 1 p.m.
