Animas High School announces events

Animas High School announces these events:

A physics exhibition will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday. People will learn about the safety of local traffic patterns, as AHS advanced physics students present their evaluation of intersections in La Plata County.

AHS will be closed from Monday through Nov. 26 for the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Campus will reopen at 7 a.m. Nov. 27.

Special education committee to meet

The Special Education Advisory Committee will meet at 5:15 p.m. today at the San Juan BOCES office located on the third floor of the Durango School District administration building, 201 East 12th St.

Parents, educators and community members are invited to join in learning more about advocating for students with special needs in the school system.

Clay Room announces holiday programs

The Clay Room, Durango’s Paint Your Own Pottery Studio, 171 E. Seventh St., has expanded and will offer these programs:

Holiday pottery classes will be offered to children ages 5 to 13 on Dec. 3. A session for home-school students as well as an afterschool session will be available. The class includes a return trip to glaze or paint each piece.

A holiday craft class for preschoolers and home-schooled children will be offered Dec. 17. Children will create gifts or holiday treasures.

A cake decorating class will be offered Nov. 21. Children ages 5 to 13 will create a cake using tips from master cake decorator Luda Woodward. advance registration is required. Adult cake classes can be privately scheduled.

Other holiday specials will include free studio Fridays through Nov. 22.; walk in painting times from 11 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday with the exception of Thanksgiving day. The business has added a room to enlarge the instructional studio and overflow painting space. Connected to this space is the business’s new partner, The Durango Dog Bakery.

Sign-up has begun for winter classes, with early registration discounts.

Continuing education offered on the Internet

Fort Lewis College Continuing Education offers open enrollment web-based learning programs for people to acquire skills needed for professional level positions in a variety of in-demand occupations.

People can enroll anytime and will have the support of an instructor/mentor who will answer questions, encourage and motivate. Costs vary depending on the program selected.
