Women’s lax goes to California to recruit Wales

Fort Lewis College women’s lacrosse added a California prospect during the early signing period.

Shea Wales will head from Oakland, Calif., to Durango next fall and will join the Skyhawks for the 2014 campaign.

The versatile 5-5 Wales played center, attack and defensive wing for Bishop O’Dowd High School, starting on varsity the last two seasons and earning all-conference second-team honors as a junior last season.

She led the Dragons in assists, caused turnovers and groundballs as a junior, and she was second on the team in draw controls and fourth in scoring.

“Shea is an excellent athlete who has a great field sense from also playing competitive soccer in high school,” FLC third-year head coach Kelsey MacDonald said in a news release. “She is a hard worker both on the lacrosse field and in the classroom.”

Wales competed in club lacrosse for Tenacity10 and BearLax and helped Bishop O’Dowd to a league soccer title as a junior.

FLC finished 7-8 last year with a 4-4 record in the Western Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association. The Skyhawks will open their 2013 campaign Feb. 22 at Colorado Mesa before opening at home against McKendree on March 12.
