Frances Louise Schreyer, the mother of Durango resident Barbara Stine, died suddenly Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, in Albuquerque. She was 89.
Known as “Bunnie,” she was born to Homer and Mabel Shotts on March 15, 1923, in Sharon, Pa. After graduating from Sharon High School in 1941, she earned a registered nurse degree.
Mrs. Schreyer served as an ensign in the Navy during World War II, caring for injured Navy and Marine personnel.
In 1946, she married Kenneth Schreyer in Virginia Beach, Va., after she got out of the Navy, and he got out of the Army. They moved to Buffalo, N.Y.
After her husband’s death in 1988, Mrs. Schreyer moved to Albuquerque. She loved traveling and took many trips to exotic places around the world.
“She also enjoyed doing needlework, and her family is blessed to have her beautiful works as remembrances of her,” her family said. “Bunnie will be remembered as a lover of animals, particularly her dogs and granddogs, and a supporter of animal welfare causes.”
Mrs. Schreyer was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Kenneth Schreyer.
She is survived by her daughters Barbara Stine of Durango and Sandra Schreyer of Albuquerque; sons Craig Schreyer of Pittsburgh and David Schreyer of Clarence, N.Y.; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Humane Society.
