Time runs out on FLC basketball

Herald Staff Report

The Fort Lewis College women’s basketball team found itself on the wrong end of a couple of timely runs. Then the Skyhawks found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard.

The Skyhawks fell behind by 18, rallied to within five but fell short Saturday, losing the final game of the Ashbrook Classic 68-54 to host Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas.

FLC (1-1) committed 21 turnovers, several in a 22-3 Mustangs run to close the first half. Because of that, the Mustangs went up as many as 18 early in the second half, and only Christie Groh made more than one field goal before the half.

“We need to be better in the toughness department with the little things,” FLC head coach Jason Flores said.

FLC got as close as 57-52 in the final three minutes before Midwestern State closed the door.

Groh had 11 points and 13 rebounds, and Alex Easterbrook had 12 points for FLC.
