Urquidez

Herald Staff Report

A 36-year-old Durango man has been arrested on suspicion of felony sexual assault and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Shelton Urquidez was being held Monday in the La Plata County jail on a $250,000 bail.

Urquidez is suspected of giving marijuana to a 15-year-old boy in exchange for sexual favors, according to a news release issued Monday by the Durango Police Department.

The incident occurred in early March in the east 500 block of 29th Street, where Urquidez resides, the release says. Authorities have seized computers and cellphones from the home.

The Durango Police Department learned of the sexual assault from the Colorado Department of Human Services Child Welfare Division.

Two other teenage victims have been identified, and detectives believe several more may still be unidentified.

Anyone with information is asked to call Durango police Investigator Burke Baldwin at 375-4734.
