Rome wasn’t built in a day but 3: Rome builds a W

When in Rome, win the Gridiron Green.

So, that’s just what Michael Rome did. The Durangoan with the online handle of “mgrome” scored 13 out of 16 to win the Week 12 Gridiron Green.

Jeremy Haake of Fisher, Minn., fished a perfect score from the Great Lakes to win the national Green.

Yours truly pulled a first: I gave myself a half-point. If you recall, I picked the Vikings to beat the Bears but with a caveat: Chicago would win with Cutler.

Cutler played; Chicago won.

So, I went 11½-4½ – including a Thanksgiving Day sweep and a Browns upset over the Steelers – to run my overall record to a unique 107½-67½.

The overalls:

Gridiron Green: “tholeman” and “edonelan” with 124 points each.

Gridiron Gold: “tholeman” with 124 points.

New Orleans at Atlanta, 6:20 p.m. (NFL Network) – Round about Week 10, I picked the Saints to derail the Falcons’ undefeated season. I guessed right. But that was in New Orleans; this is Atlanta, Hotlanta if you will. The Falcons are 10-1 and share the best record in the NFL with the Houston Texans. Pick: Falcons, 33-27. Line: Falcons by 3½.

Sunday, Dec. 2

Seattle at Chicago, 11 a.m. – Cutler is back, and so are the Bears. Besides, the Seahawks don’t win away from Seattle. Pick: Bears, 21-20. Line: Bears by 4.

Minnesota at Green Bay, 11 a.m. – Pass, pass, pass, but this time Aaron Rodgers has Greg Jennings to throw to. Pick: Packers, 24-17. Line: Packers by 9.

San Francisco at St. Louis, 11 a.m. – The up-and-down Rams surprisingly haven’t lost in the NFC West, including a tie at San Francisco. Bye-bye, streak. Pick: 49ers, 24-13; Line: 49ers by 7.

Carolina at Kansas City, 11 a.m. – “Chefs,” meet Cam Newton. Pick: Panthers, 24-16. Line: Panthers by 1.

Houston at Tennessee, 11 a.m. – Their D is sagging a bit with injuries, but ... Pick: Texans, 23-20. Line: Texans by 4½.

Arizona at N.Y. Jets, 11 a.m. – The Cardinals will find a way. Pick: Cardinals, 20-10. Line: Jets by 4½.

Indianapolis at Detroit, 11 a.m. – I reckon Andrew Luck can sling it with Matthew Stafford just fine. Pick: Colts, 22-20. Line: Lions by 4½.

Jacksonville at Buffalo, 11 a.m. – Football in December favors the Bills in Buffalo. Pick: Bills, 27-16. Line: Bills by 6.

New England at Miami, 11 a.m. (KCNC, KREZ) – See the Patriots’ offense roll. Pick: Patriots, 37-20. Line: Patriots by 7½.

Tampa Bay at Denver, 2:05 p.m. (KASA; KRSJ 100.5 FM) – Watch both offenses roll. Pick: Broncos, 28-27. Line: Broncos by 6½.

Cleveland at Oakland, 2:25 p.m. – Brown over Black. Pick: Browns, 23-20. Line: off.

Cincinnati at San Diego, 2:25 p.m. – Stripes over Bolts. Pick: Bengals, 23-17. Line: Bengals by 1.

Pittsburgh at Baltimore, 2:25 p.m. (KCNC, KREZ) – Ravens over their rivals to reach the playoffs. Pick: Ravens, 23-20. Line: off.

Philadelphia at Dallas, 6:20 p.m. (KOBF, KUSA) – Tony Romo won’t need 62 pass attempts and 441 yards passing to beat the Eagles. Pick: Cowboys, 33-14. Line: Cowboys by 10.

Monday, Dec. 3

N.Y. Giants at Washington, 6:30 p.m. (ESPN) – While last week’s Sunday night game never developed between the Giants and the Packers as expected, Eli Manning and Big Blue’s offense delivered. It appears the bye week solved the Giants’ struggles. Meanwhile in the nation’s capital, Robert Griffin III is campaigning for Rookie of the Year. Pick: Giants, 27-24. Line: Pick ’em.
