Durango resident Paul Christian Voit died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, in Durango. He was 46. The cause of death is under investigation.
Mr. Voit was born to Allen and Dorothy Voit on April 19, 1966, in Milwaukee. He grew up and attended school in Menomonee Falls, Wis., living in the Milwaukee area until he moved to Colorado about eight years ago.
He worked in the family business, the Orchard Inn, in Menomonee Falls and Jack’s Tobacco in Wisconsin. Locally, he worked for the Durango Smoke Shop, Home Depot and, most recently, at Walgreens, where his family said he excelled in customer relations and service friendships.
On Sept. 23, 1995, he married Chyrise Bay in Menomonee Falls. The marriage later ended in divorce.
He had a passion for road cycling and touring and rode in distance fundraisers and local tours. Mr. Voit was a cigar aficionado and an avid Green Bay Packer and NASCAR fan. He followed hockey and soccer.
Mr. Voit is survived by his daughter, Jessalyn Bay-Voit, of Mancos; mother, Dorothy Voit, of West Bend, Wis.; siblings Ellen Amado of Bristow, Va., David Voit of West Bend, Andy Voit of Boscobel, Wis., and Betsy Spizar of Grafton, Wis.; former wife, Chyrise Bay, of Mancos; partner, Cheri Jones, of Hermosa; half-siblings Mike Voit, Tom Voit and Patty Voit, all of Wisconsin; and numerous extended family members.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Hood Mortuary, 1261 East Third Ave. The Rev. Craig Paschal will officiate.
