Sam Weiss gets a good look at her third goal against Angelo State, one of two hat tricks the Skyhawks’ striker scored this year. She finished with Fort Lewis College high marks for goals and points in a single season, and Thursday she was named to an All-American roster.

Three’s company in the All-American column for the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks’ women’s soccer program.

Sam Weiss became the third FLC player in program history to be named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America team when she landed on the honorable mention list Thursday.

Weiss joins Durango High School alumna Erika Shisler, who was an honorable mention selection in 2010, and Jamie MacArthur, a third-team pick in 2009, as Skyhawks’ women’s soccer players to land on this particular list, selected by sports information directors from Division II schools.

The 5-4 sophomore from Chandler, Ariz., had a career year in 2012. Weiss set an FLC single-season record for goals with 17, which tied for the league lead in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, and she also set the FLC mark for single-season points with 42.

Weiss had a pair of hat tricks in games against Angelo State on Sept. 9 and Colorado Christian on Oct. 26.

“I really think she has quite a bit left in the tank. She just keeps growing as a person, and this reflects in her football as well as her schoolwork. She has become a superb student-athlete,” FLC head coach Damian Clarke said in a news release.

“I’m more then proud of Sam and the effort she put into our program this year,” said Clarke, an FLC alumnus.

Weiss already is seventh in school history in points, fifth in goals and 14th in assists in just two seasons.

This honor is just the latest in an impressive string for the striker. Weiss also was named to the Daktronics All-South Central Region first team, All-RMAC first team, RMAC All-Academic second team and the All-RMAC Tournament team.

FLC finished 13-4-3 this season and 8-3-3 in the RMAC.
