This letter is in response to the front page article The Durango Herald ran Nov. 19. It talked about how rockets “ripped” into a residential area of Gaza City, killing civilians, including children and an elderly woman. Can we step back and take a look at who Israel is battling?
Hamas (an acronym for Islamist Resistance Movement) governs the Gaza Strip and has been recognized as a terrorist organization by the United States, the EU and others. This group is known to use playgrounds, mosques and residential homes as cover for its rockets and humans as shields – including innocents such as children.
I was dismayed that is was barely mentioned in the article that was so slanted toward condemning Israel’s tactics. If the yellow-bellied Hamas would come out and fight like big boys, perhaps Israel wouldn’t have to fire on residential areas that Hamas uses to harbor their most yellow-bellied of all. They also like to use fear on their own people by killing six men (right in a public square in front of people of all ages) who allegedly have helped Israel and dragging their dead bodies through the streets as a public example. This was international news Nov. 20.
On another note, I hope that the United States will continue to come alongside Israel in support of defending the land that God has promised to Israel. And he has promised to help Israel defend it. He (God) is sure to have the last say in all of this fighting.
God spoke to Abraham in the Bible, “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on Earth will be blessed through you.” Genesis 12:2-3.
God’s promises never change. His people will endure. They have for thousands of years.
