County seeks Planning Commission members

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners seeks interested people to serve on the Planning Commission.

This position is advisory and is not paid. Reasonable mileage expenses will be reimbursed and a meal provided. LPEA changes Time-of-Use program

La Plata Electric Association has altered its Time-of-Use program for 2013.

LPEA has developed two separate Time-of-Use programs, one for regular program customers and one called Electric Thermal Storage Advantage, for people with ETS heating systems.

Proposed rates and program hours are: 7.3 cents per kilowatt hour during off-peak period; 14.4 cents per kilowatt hour during on-peak period with a base charge of $20.50 per month. The off-peak hours year-round will be from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday to Saturday and all day Sunday and major holidays.

The Electric Thermal Storage Advantage rates are: 7.3 cents per kilowatt hour during off-peak day period; 5 cents per kilowatt hour during off-peak night period; 14.4 cents per kilowatt hour during on-peak period with a base charge of $20.50 per month. The off-peak hours year-round will be from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Monday to Saturday. Off-peak night rates will apply all day Sunday and all day on major holidays

The 2013 residential general service rates will be 11.3 cents per kilowatt hour with a base charge of $20.50 per month.

‘Blue Christmas’ service to be held at Mercy

Community members who have suffered a loss are invited to Mercy Regional Medical Center’s annual “Blue Christmas” service at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Mercy Chapel.

The 30-minute service will feature readings, a time of remembrance, live music, prayer and a message of hope. The service acknowledges that the holidays can be difficult for people who grieve from a broken relationship, the loss of a pet, illness, unemployment, loneliness or the loss of a dream.

Republic women to host Christmas party

The Southwest Republican Women will meet for its 2012 Christmas Party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the DoubleTree Hotel, 501 Camino del Rio.

This also will include the group’s yearly effort to support needy residents of La Plata County. People are asked to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to Manna Soup Kitchen and a wrapped children’s gift, marked for a girl or a boy, to be donated to Southwest Safehouse.

Morning with Santa to be held Dec. 15

The Strater Hotel will host its third annual Morning with Santa from 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 15 at the Henry Strater Theatre, 699 Main Ave.

The event will feature a buffet breakfast from 9 to 11:30 a.m.; Christmas presents and Santa sing-along at 9:30 a.m.; and photos with Santa at 10 a.m. Tickets will include food, crafts, entertainment and photos. Participants will be able to decorate their own pancakes, sing-along with elves, make handcrafted art to take home and more. Donated hats, gloves and blankets are welcomed for the Strater Hotel Project Merry Christmas. Tickets are $7 for ages 4 and younger, $10 for ages 5 to 10 and $19 for 11 and older.
