Donna Trapp

Dryside resident Donna Trapp died of a gunshot wound Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, west of Breen. She was 60. The manner of death is under investigation.

Ms. Trapp lived in Durango for many years and was an active volunteer firefighter for Durango Fire & Rescue Authority. She also worked as a firefighter for La Plata County and the U.S. Forest Service, responding to numerous wildfires around the country, including the Missionary Ridge Fire, the Waldo Canyon Fire near Colorado Springs and the Ruidoso, N.M., fire.

She enjoyed spending time with her dog, Russell.

“Donna was known for her sense of humor and her willingness to help others anytime,” her friends said.

She is survived by her mother, Pat, of Florida; siblings; and nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at the Durango American Legion Post 28, 878 East Second Ave. Friends are asked to join in a celebration of her life.
