Former Durango resident Frank Douglas Preuss died of liver cancer Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012, in Las Vegas. He was 60.
Mr. Preuss was born to John L. and Roberta G. Preuss on Aug. 23, 1952, in Durango. While growing up here, he was a member of the Cub Scouts and played baseball with the Mighty Mites, a team sponsored by Burns Bank.
He had been a member of the Culinary Union in Las Vegas since 1977.
Mr. Preuss worked as a maitre d’ for the MGM Grand, Bally’s Las Vegas Resort, the Mirage Las Vegas and Treasure Island Las Vegas, as well as the Rainbow Club and Casino in Henderson, Nev.
“He could memorize menus and wine lists just like that,” his sister, Melody Tewa, said.
In his spare time, he rooted for the Oakland Raiders and the Los Angeles Dodgers. He also played on an adult softball team in Las Vegas.
Survivors, all of Farmington, include his mother, Roberta G. Flowers; brother Jon L. Preuss; and sister Melody Tewa.
Cremation has occurred. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
