“Questions surround coming health-insurance changes,” (Herald, Dec. 9) stated that businesses that employ more than 50 full-time employees – those working more than 30 hours a week – will be required to provide health insurance to employees under the new Affordable Care Act. Then, the article said that the city of Durango may reduce hours for some part-time workers to ensure they are below the 30-hour mark.
Does this mean our progressive city is going to try to skirt around the new rules instead of finding a way to work with them? Isn’t the idea of the new act to insure as many people as possible to create a healthier community? Durango has often found creative solutions to problems. Let’s not stop on this one.
