Extension office offers clean-energy resources

La Plata County Extension Office is offering an array of new clean-energy resources for consumers, teachers and interested groups or organizations.

Thermal leak detectors, Kill A Watt power monitors and “flicker checkers” are included in the new Home Energy Audit Loan program kits that can be borrowed free.

Local teachers also can borrow a comprehensive energy kit designed to go along with Colorado State University Extension’s clean-energy curriculum for middle and high schools.

This kit includes: eight mini solar panels, motors, multimeters and protractors; one light meter; one compass; three mini wind turbines; two power monitors; compact fluorescent, incandescent, and LED light bulbs; nine lamp sockets; three power strips; 10 thermometers; 12 insulation samples; and more.

Groups of teachers or interested organizations can schedule a workshop or training with CSU Extension about solar, wind, energy efficiency or the school curriculum.

The CSU Extension energy website, www.ext.colostate.edu/energy, also offers an online do-it-yourself home-energy audit, decision tools to help determine if a property is a good candidate for solar or wind energy, fact sheets, videos and other resources.
