Durango City Manager Ron LeBlanc was quoted (Herald, Dec. 9) as saying the city hasn’t determined how many employees’ hours will be reduced because of the Affordable Care Act. That’s strange because in the latter part of October, the part-time employees of the Transit Department were told hours would be cut to 27 or fewer. I have it on good authority that all part-time city employees hours will be cut by the same amount.
Also, the timing of that notice seems, somehow, odd to me. Chris Smith of “Visiting Angels” told his employees of possible consequences of the Affordable Health Care Act in October also, just before the presidential election. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not implying anything. That would be “above my pay grade.”
Of course, the cuts will affect each employee differently. For me, I’ll be fine, but to others, it will be an extreme hardship. So much for helping the middle class, Barack.
