Durango resident Charles Homer Bailey, 70, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, in Durango. He had turned 70 two days earlier.
Known as “Butch,” he was born to Roy and Sarah Bailey on Dec. 21, 1942, in Scottsbluff, Neb. He served in the military with the Army Corps of Engineers.
In June 1965, he married Shirley Seyler in Lincoln, Neb. The couple had three children before the marriage ended in divorce.
After his military service, Mr. Bailey had a career as a forklift mechanic, first with John Deere in Davenport, Iowa, and then with Baker Forklift Co. in Houston.
He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He moved to La Plata County in 2011.
Mr. Bailey is survived by his children Lorretta Castleberry of Bayfield, Randy Bailey of Mentone, Calif., and Teresa Lawson of Battle Creek, Mich.; sisters June Williams of Lincoln, Pearl Hofaker of Lexington, Neb., and Rose Spivey of Elwood, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in his hometown.
