John Ronald Pennington, a Hesperus resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013, in Durango. He was 43.
Mr. Pennington, was born Feb. 18, 1969, in Houston to Barbara J. and Guy S. Pennington Jr. The family moved to Bartlesville, Okla., when he was four.
After graduating from Bartlesville High School, Mr. Pennington attended Oklahoma State University and later received an Airframe and Powerplant License through the Spartan School of Aeronautics and bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Phoenix.
Mr. Pennington married Lisa Slatton on May 15, 1993, in Louisiana.
Mr. Pennington most recently worked as technical service manager for Joy Global in Farmington.
Mr. Pennington had many interests. He played bass guitar and other instruments, taught youth Sunday school and was active in the First Southern Baptist Church in Durango where he volunteered for ministry. He also was on the board of directors for Hesperus Baptist Camp.
He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family and friends.
Mr. Pennington is survived by his wife, Lisa Ann Pennington, sons Jordan, JT and Jason Pennington, all of Hesperus; his parents, Guy S. Pennington and Barbara J. Pennington, , both of Benton, La.; brother, Michael S. Pennington, of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the First Southern Baptist Church, 1715 West Second Ave. Clyde Johnson will officiate.
