Fire engulfs, destroys Bayfield mobile home

A fire destroyed a mobile home and shed Saturday morning in the 100 block of East South Street in Bayfield. The blaze started in an attached shed and spread to the mobile home, responders said. There were no injuries.

Units of the Upper Pine River Fire Protection District arrived at the home at 11:52 a.m., said Capt. Cate Harding. The shed was fully engulfed at that time, she said.

Harding said it took about 10 minutes to knock down the flames, but by that time, the mobile home was fully engulfed.

The house is pretty well a loss, she said. The unidentified resident and that persons dogs are staying elsewhere.

Harding said that while the fire was controlled quickly, crews stayed on scene about three hours to make sure the fire was totally out. Harding also said that while the mobile home was a total loss, there were salvageable items.

Eleven to 15 firefighters responded, including members of the Los Pinos Fire Protection District. There were two fire engines, three fire tenders, a rescue truck and an ambulance, Harding said.

The Southwest Colorado Chapter of the American Red Cross was assisting the resident.
