Bayfield girls battling flu bug

Wolverines survive to top Cortez

The Bayfield girls battled Montezuma-Cortez and the flu bug Tuesday night.

The Wolverines, with several players home with high fevers, managed to stop the Panthers 49-41 at the BHS gym.

“I have never seen a team with that percentage of girls sick,” head coach Ronnie Posey said. “It was a very difficult night. They did not feel well, and the energy was not there.”

He said Andre Lahoz did an excellent job coming off the bench.

“Carrie Yost started, and she did well. Micaela (Knickerbocker) kept us organized,” he said.

Knickerbocker led the Wolverines (6-4) with 10 points.

“It wasn’t pretty, by any means,” he said.

Cortez dropped to 0-8.

The BHS girls’ next game will be Jan. 18 at Monte Vista.
