Durango resident Elaine Lenore Beltran died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, in Durango. She was 63. A cancer survivor, she died from a respiratory illness.
Mrs. Beltran was born to Mary Lobato on Feb. 17, 1949, in Durango. She grew up in Durango and graduated from Durango High School in 1968.
On Aug. 17, 1968, she married Rocky Beltran Sr. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Durango.
When she was young, Mrs. Beltran was a fashion designer for Fashion Bar in Denver. She was a homemaker as the couple raised their family.
Mrs. Beltran enjoyed camping, fishing, crystals and flowers, especially for the butterflies they attracted, which she considered her symbol.
She and her daughter-in-law, Stephanie Beltran, were the best of friends and did everything together, her son, Rocky Beltran Jr., said.
“Elaine was a peacemaker, had many friends and loved her family deeply,” her son said. “Her grandchildren and family were of utmost importance to her, and she had a deep faith in God. Elaine was a giver of gifts to many friends and those in need. She was always happy and had a smile on her face.”
Mrs. Beltran was preceded in death by her son, Jude Beltran; and grandson, Jeremy Rivas.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Rocky Beltran Sr., of Durango; daughter, Angel Bowers, of Durango; son, Rocky G. Beltran Jr., of Durango; mother, Mary Lobato, of Durango; sister, Pat Aragon, of Bayfield; brother, Robert Aragon, of Denver; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 254 East Fifth Ave. A memorial service will be held a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family at the service.
