Hot-shooting Shiprock pulled away in the second half to beat the Bayfield High School boys basketball team 75-48 on Saturday in the Rumble in the Jungle Tournament in Aztec.
“Both teams started slow. Then, they really started to convert in the second quarter. They scored 20. Then, they scored 24 in the third,” Bayfield head coach Bill Hesford said.
“I think in the third quarter, it was like they were making everything they shot,” Hesford said.
“And we couldn’t answer.”
Shiprock improved to 13-4 overall.
Tyler Kerr led the Wolverines (1-6) with 15 points and seven rebounds.
John Fisher added eight pints. Geoff Pope added six points for BHS.
“We struggled. But, we’re trying to look ahead,” Hesford said. “We start league play this week, and that’s what counts.”
The Wolverines will open the Intermountain League on Friday at Monte Vista.
