Longtime Durango resident Georgia (Lewis) Huntsman died suddenly Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at her winter home in Sun City, Ariz. She was 67.

Mrs. Huntsman was born to Keith and Rose (Gillespie) Lewis on July 22, 1945, in Tilden, Neb. She grew up in rural Meadow Grove, Neb., and attended Meadow Grove High School until she moved to Durango in about 1962. She graduated from Durango High School in 1963.

She married Dan Huntsman on June 20, 1964, in Durango. Mrs. Huntsman was a homemaker who ran their home and raised their two children in Durango.

She was an active member of River Church.

Georgia loved life and expressed this in how she lived, including her family, faith and friends, her family said. She found she also loved painting and was quite accomplished at it.

In her later years, Mrs. Huntsman and her husband wintered in Sun City.

Mrs. Huntsman was preceded in death by her daughter, Amy Lynne Huntsman.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dan Huntsman of Durango; son, Danny Joe Huntsman of Benton, Ark.; sisters Rose Lewis of Lakewood and Linda Nielsen of Stanton, Neb.; brother, Perry Lewis of El Paso, Texas; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
