Adrenal gland exams to be offered Friday

Dr. Nancy Utter of Durango Natural Medicine will offer free exams to assess the health of adrenal glands from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday .

The adrenal glands manage the fight-or-flight response and are significantly affected by stress. Natural medicines are used by some to help reduce the negative effects of stress on the body, and to help restore peace and calm.

Southwest group receives dental grant

San Juan Basin Healths Southwest Smile Makers dental program received funding from the Colorado Health Foundation.

Southwest Smile Makers provides comprehensive dental care for children from lower-income and working families at its office in The Commons Building. Additionally, the program provides dental screenings and fluoride for all students at 11 elementary schools and three Head Start schools throughout La Plata, Archuleta and San Juan counties.

The grant award of $98,222 through two years will assist Smile Makers in continuing to provide this care.

Energy-audit kit available for loan

The Colorado State University Extension Office in La Plata County has a tool kit to loan for aid in conducting an audit of energy use (and waste) in homes.

The Home Energy Audit Loan, or HEAL, kit can be borrowed free for one week.

Community clinic to host open house

The La Plata Community Clinic will host an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the clinic, 1800 East Third Ave., Suite 103. Its directly south of Durango Public Library.

Attendees will meet the board and staff members, tour the clinic and learn more about the clinic. Light refreshments will be served.
