Business district begins Coffee & Conversation
Durango Business Improvement District will host Coffee & Conversation, the first of which is to be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Durango Coffee Co., 730 Main Ave.
No appointments are necessary. BID constituents or members of the community are invited to drop in during the designated time and speak with BID Director Tim Walsworth.
Locations will vary, and as time permits, BID Community Relations Coordinator Pam Glasco may also join the meetings. All currently scheduled Coffee & Conversation sessions will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at these locations: Jan. 31 at Steaming Bean Coffee Co., 915 Main Ave.; Feb. 21 and April 18 at Carver Brewing Co., 1022 Main Ave.; March 21 at Steaming Bean Coffee Co., 915 Main Ave.; and April 4 at Durango Joe’s, in Town Plaza.
First National Bank announces new hire
First National Bank of Durango announces the addition of Catherine (Charis) Charistopolous as a main office customer service representative.
Charistopolous is from North Carolina and has lived in Durango for 10 years. She has a degree from Indiana University.

SME Environmental announces new hires
SME Environmental Inc. announces these additions to the environmental consulting firm:
Benjamin Peterson, geologist, earned a degree in geology and a GIS certificate from Fort Lewis College. Peterson’s experience includes geological hazard assessments, water-quality sampling, GPS mapping and surveying, historical consumptive-use analyses of irrigated crops and well construction design.
Heather Rietz, a biologist, received her degree in biology with a minor in chemistry from FLC. Her background has been in outdoor recreation, youth coaching and mentorship, and natural resources at Mesa Verde National Park and Devils Tower National Park in Wyoming.
Emily Byers joins SME with a degree from FLC and an master of science degree from Colorado State University. Byers has administrative experience and will be managing the SME office.
