Durango U14 girls qualify for state

Defense rallies around its goaltender for the team’s ninth shutout in a row

With three wins and a tie at the Apex Center in Arvada last weekend, the Durango U14 girls hockey team is going to state.

Durango goaltender Amanda Saxton posted her ninth consecutive shutout.

Saxton’s defense – Grace Panze, Olivia Sakadinsky and Cori Truax – helped protect her goal.

The state tournament is Feb. 22-24 in Denver.

The U14 forwards are Lane Arnwine, Kaleigh Bayer, Maia Collins, Kirsten Fogel, Brynn Nelson and Caleigh Walker.

“The teams going to state are evenly matched, which will make for some exciting hockey,” U14 girls hockey head coach Dell Truax said in an email to The Durango Herald. “But the girls will continue to work hard and prepare. We will be ready for the challenge.”
