The Ignacio High School boys basketball team started fast and finished faster Saturday in an 82-33 victory at Ouray.
The Bobcats, with 13 different players scoring, improved to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the San Juan Basin League.
“We played pretty well. That’s what we told the kids, we still have to go out there and execute,” Valdez said after the Class 2A Bobcats broke to a 26-3 lead at the end of the first quarter against the Class 1A Trojans.
Clayton Jefferson scored 11 to lead four Bobcats in double figures. Adison Jones, Nick Herrera and Kelton Richmond each scored 10.
Justin Carver added eight, as did Wyatt Hayes.
Valdez said he brought up several players from the junior varsity for Saturday’s game. He said the Bobcats did a good job of maintaining their concentration and focus in spite of the big lead.
The Bobcats will travel to Bayfield on Tuesday for a nonleague game against the Wolverines.
